Wafula Chebukati who is the chair of IEBC has shocked many after the resignation of the 3 IEBC commissioners.For what many could not believe Chebukati said that 2 of the 3 commissioners who resigned on Monday 16th April were involved in the decision of sending Chiloba to a 3 compulsory leave .He has dismissed the claims that they were never consulted.
Paul Kurgat, Consolata Nkatha and Margaret are the commissioners who resigned on Monday . Chebukati has said that Nkatha and Kurgat were present while the decision was being made and they contributed in the making of the decision of sending Chiloba on leave.
They accused Chebukati of leaking out confidential documents and making unilateral decisions in many occasions and then saying that it was the commission’s collective agreement.
The chair said that the decision of sending Chiloba home was a collective thing even though some commisioners dissented it.
He said that the first plenary plenary meeting was held on 16th January and the second one held on 16th March where they agreed the matter to be referred to internal audit directorate and the report be given within 14 days.
Chiloba is being investigated over the alleged flawed procurement of additional 4,600 additional kits worthy 250 billion for 2018 general elections.
Chebukati said that on 13th April they had a crisis meeting at Naivasha and they were supposed to raise the issues they said while resigning in that meeting but they didn’t do so..
